A wasp (Vespula vulgaris) hovers over “pink earth” (Dibaeis baeomyces) collected from road side in Eastern Connecticut. This tiny pioneer lichen can colonize large patches of bare ground. Take a look at the ground next time your outside. The tiny world is spectacular!
